NoPity

NoPity has been established to provide Handicapable individuals the necessary tools for blossoming into, and maintaining, a proactive and productive life in today’s able-bodied society. We focus on effortless living for everyone, but speak from the perspective of a wheelchair.

While working one-on-one, or in a group setting, we aim to show all individuals dealing with a challenge that there is in fact a light at the end of the tunnel. No matter what hand you were dealt, everyone is capable of living his or her dream. It’s a choice to look at a challenge as a life limiting burden or a barrier. NoPity aims to create awareness for all people with our Effortless Living publications and workshops. Our mission is to help better one neighborhood at a time by inspiring individuals to rise to the occasion.

NoPity offers consultation in areas such as:

Empowerment: Be inspired to rise to the occasion no matter what challenges you’re faced with. Multiple workshops and seminars are available to educate and inspire children to be their own advocate.

Effortless Travel: Our publications include a series called "Off the Beaten Track". This series is dedicated to effortless travel for all people, especially those who have physical limitations. It is not limited to handicapable individuals, but was created for everyone who enjoys traveling without a hitch! This guide is perfect for vacationers who prefer to take the path less traveled, parents with kids in strollers, people who walk a little slower, or those who enjoy a uniquely effortless experience.

Effortless Gardening: Our House of Hope Garden is completely equipped with effortless gardens. Each raised garden bed was designed to give access to children and adults while seated in wheelchairs. Roll around stations are available in our garden to promote empowerment and independence. We offer educational workshops for our “Little Sprouts” that aim to ignite a sense of self and confidence that will last a lifetime. Art Therapy workshops have been implemented to provide a positive outlet for coping with the waves of life. With the help of art and nature we will show our Sprouts that everything is possible, no matter what hand we were dealt.

Transition Coach: For all individuals, maturing from child to adulthood is a trying time. Handicapable teens are faced with additional concerns while journeying toward independence. Acting as a mentor, I will guide both parent and child through the various stages of transition.

"No Curb is EVER Too Steep..."

I was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of 2 and raised to play the hand I was dealt. I've made the best of what was given me and never let my wheels get in the way of my dreams. For all those who have doubted me, I've taken that negative energy and turned it into fuel that has pushed me into a world of discovery and independence.
I am living MY dream. I have the love of my life, friends that are family and a blossoming career.

"Everyone was dealt a hand of cards. It's a matter of how you play the game..."

It Is Beyond Amazing...

I use a dressing stick to help accomplish all my life tasks. All it's made of is a wooden dowel and a wire coat hook. Without it I'd be very limited in my independence. With it I can do something as simple as picking up a dime from the floor, reaching a light switch, pulling up my pants and as complicated as laundry, retrieving an item that rolled under the couch or getting dinner from the freezer (which is significantly above my head). With this in mind, you can now see how necessary a dressing stick is in a handicapable person's life, it helps with much more than just dressing. Recently the hook on my stick broke, so I was searching online to see where I can purchase a new one since Home Depot no longer keeps them in stock. I was completely disgusted when I viewed the first result of my search which was an ad for a medical supply company who is charging $135 for this completely necessary device. The disgusting part is that you can go to a hardware store and purchase a dowel and hook for $2.85. Medical supply companies continually rape our society by over charging for items handicapable people can't survive without. It's beyond amazing and makes me sick. Check it out...
